The project

In the PAF we support the actions of the Government of Ecuador and the main actors linked to the conservation and sustainable use of protected areas in the long term.

With the creation of the Ministry of the Environment in 1996, and after several joint workshops held with public and private actors in the early 2000s, an equity fund was designed to support the financing of operating expenses required for the protection of biodiversity sheltered in protected areas.

Currently, 20 years later, the Protected Areas Fund finances, accompanies and promotes the conservation and sustainable use of 42 of the 53 areas of the State’s Sub-system of Protected Areas SSPA (SEAP), which represent 98.8% of the surface in charge of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition in continental Ecuador.
